Can't edit a project
Open a project in the editor when you can't, whether you're a Viewer, on a phone or narrow window, waiting on processing, outside its workspace, or saves fail.
Applies to
- The editor, in a browser on a desktop or laptop.
- Owners, Admins, and Editors can edit. Viewers can't.
What you see
- "You're currently a viewer in this workspace. Upgrade to an editor to edit this project"
- "Desktop required" and "The editor is only available on desktop or laptop. Open this page on one to continue editing."
- Edit and Share are dimmed while the project processes, with a note that they open once AI finishes its work.
- "You don't have access to this project" or "Project not found"
- "Failed to save step. Try again."
Quick checks
- You're signed in with the account your team invited.
- You're on a computer, in a browser window that isn't narrow.
Causes and fixes
You're a Viewer
This happens when your role in the workspace is Viewer. Viewers can view projects but not edit them. The message mentions an upgrade, but it's your role that needs to change.
To fix it:
- Ask your workspace's Owner to change your role to Editor or Admin. Only the Owner can change roles.
- Reload the project, then select Edit.
It worked if the editor opens.
Your screen is too narrow
This happens on phones and tablets, and in browser windows narrower than 768 pixels.
To fix it:
- Select Copy link to copy the editor's address.
- Open the link on a desktop or laptop.
- If you're already on one, make the browser window wider.
It worked if the editor opens instead of "Desktop required".
The project is still processing
This happens while Layerpath is still making the project. Projects from Create with Agent open for editing once their callouts are written. Recordings open once the progress reaches Done.
To fix it:
- Stay on the project's page, or come back later.
- When Edit is available, select it.
It worked if the editor opens. If processing doesn't finish, see Project stuck or failed.
The project is in another workspace
You see "You don't have access to this project" and "This project belongs to another workspace. Ask the project owner to add you as a workspace member." This happens when you aren't a member of the workspace the project is in.
To fix it:
- Check that you're signed in with the account your team invited.
- Ask an Owner or Admin of that workspace to invite you.
- Accept the invitation, then open the project's link again.
It worked if the project opens. If you see "Project not found", the link is wrong or the project was deleted, so ask for a new link.
A change didn't save
You see "Failed to save step. Try again." This happens when the editor can't save a change, for example when your connection drops.
To fix it:
- Check your internet connection.
- Reload the editor.
- Make the change again.
It worked if the change is still there after you reload.
