Can't publish a walkthrough

Publish a walkthrough when Publish project won't stay on, whether Free's 3 published projects are in use, you're a Viewer, or the project is still processing.

Applies to

  • Share > Link > Publish project, in the editor or on a project's page.
  • Owners, Admins, and Editors can publish. On Free, up to 3 projects can be published at a time.

What you see

  • "Free allows up to 3 published projects at a time. Unpublish another project or upgrade to publish this one."
  • "Ask an Editor to publish this tour."
  • "AI callouts are still being prepared." when you select Share.
  • "This project was unpublished when your plan changed", in the editor.
  • Publish project stays off, with no message.

Quick checks

  • On Free, count the project cards marked Published. A walkthrough and its guide count as one project.
  • Wait until the project has finished processing.

Causes and fixes

Your workspace is at Free's limit

This happens when your workspace is on Free and 3 projects are already published. If a plan change unpublished some of your projects, publishing one again counts toward the 3 too.

To fix it:

  1. Open a published project you no longer need to share.
  2. Select Share, then on the Link tab turn off Publish project. You'll see "Tour unpublished".
  3. Go back to your project, select Share, and turn on Publish project.

Or ask an Owner or Admin to upgrade in Settings > Plan.

It worked if you see "Tour published and link copied".

If you're an Editor and the project isn't yours, you can see this message on any plan. Editors can publish their own projects and projects in folders they're a member of. Ask an Owner or Admin to publish it.

You're a Viewer

You see "Ask an Editor to publish this tour." This happens because Viewers can't publish.

To fix it:

  1. Ask an Owner, an Admin, or the Editor who made the project to publish it.
  2. To publish projects yourself next time, ask your workspace's Owner to change your role to Editor.

It worked if the walkthrough's link opens in a private browser window.

The project is still processing

You see "AI callouts are still being prepared." This happens before Layerpath has written the callouts. On a recording's page, Share stays dimmed until the progress reaches Done.

To fix it:

  1. Wait until Share is available.
  2. Select Share, then turn on Publish project.

It worked if you see "Tour published and link copied".

Publishing failed

Publish project stays off and no message appears. This happens when publishing fails for another reason, such as a dropped connection.

To fix it:

  1. Reload the page.
  2. Select Share, then turn on Publish project again.

It worked if you see "Tour published and link copied".
